This 2 days tour from Fes to Marrakech takes you through the heart of Morocco. The spectacular landscape of the Middle Atlas Mountains, the immensity of the Sahara Desert, and the vibrant culture of Fes’ old medina will all be on display.
On Day 1, you’ll journey through the highlands, stopping in Ifrane and the Cedar Forest, which is home to a population of Barbary macaques. The journey will next take you to Merzouga, where you will embark on a camel trek over the Sahara Desert. You’ll spend the night at a desert camp, where you’ll have a traditional Moroccan meal and sleep under the stars.
You’ll get up early on Day 2 to witness the sunrise over the desert. After breakfast, you’ll return to Merzouga on camels. From there, you’ll head north to Marrakech, stopping in Rissani to see the Tafilalet Oasis and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif. You’ll also visit Ouarzazate, known as “Hollywood of Morocco” for its film studios. You’ll arrive in Marrakech late at night and check into your hotel.
Trip itinerary
Day 1: Fes to Merzouga
Your journey will begin in the morning with a pickup from your hotel in Fes. You will next journey south through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane, which is renowned as the “Little Switzerland of Morocco” because of its alpine architecture.
You will travel from Ifrane to Azrou, where you can visit the Cedar Forest, which is home to a population of Barbary macaques. You will then enjoy lunch at a local Midelt restaurant.
You will continue your drive to Merzouga, a little settlement in the Sahara Desert, after lunch. You will check into your hotel and then leave your stuff when you arrive. After that, you’ll embark on a camel trip into the desert, where you’ll ride for around an hour to your camp.
You will have a typical Moroccan dinner at the camp and then spend the night under the stars.
Day 2: Merzouga to Marrakech
You will get up early to enjoy the sunrise over the Sahara Desert. After breakfast, you will return to Merzouga on camels.
Travel north from Merzouga to Rissani, where you may visit the Tafilalet Oasis and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, the founder of the Alaouite dynasty.
You will continue your drive to Marrakech from Rissani, stopping in Erfoud, which is noted for its fossil museum. You will then eat lunch at a local Tinghir restaurant.
After lunch, you will continue your drive to Marrakech by stopping in Ouarzazate, which is regarded as the “Hollywood of Morocco” because to its film studios. You will arrive in Marrakech in the evening and will be transferred to your hotel or the airport.
