On the first day of you 4 days tour from Tangier, you will travel to Tangier, a picturesque seaside city with a rich history. Wander through the small lanes and passageways packed with shops offering everything from spices to carpets to handicrafts in the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the Grand Mosque, the Kasbah Museum, and the American Legation Museum.
On the second day, you will travel to Fes, one of Morocco’s oldest imperial capitals. Explore the medina of Fes, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, and pay a visit to the Chouara Tannery to see how leather is tanned using traditional methods. Then, proceed to the Bou Inania Madrasa, a lovely Koranic school.
On the third day, you will go to Merzouga, a settlement on the outskirts of the Sahara Desert. Check into your hotel before embarking on a camel trip into the desert. Enjoy a typical Moroccan dinner at your campsite after watching the sunset over the dunes.
On the fourth day, you will return to Tangier. If you have time, go to the Hercules Caves before leaving Merzouga. When you get in Tangier, you can either go to the airport for your journey home or stay and see the city.
Trip itinerary
Day 1: Tangier to Fes
Begin your 4 days tour from Tangier, a lovely seaside city steeped in history. Wander through the small lanes and passageways packed with shops offering everything from spices to carpets to handicrafts in the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the Grand Mosque, the Kasbah Museum, and the American Legation Museum.
Take a taxi or bus to Fes (approximately 2.5 hours away) in the afternoon. Check into your hotel before exploring the Fes medina, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This medina is even larger and more intricate than Tangier’s, so bring a map or hire a guide.
Visit the Chouara Tannery to see how leather is tanned using traditional techniques. Then, proceed to the Bou Inania Madrasa, a lovely Koranic school. Take a look at the elaborate tilework and cedarwood sculptures.
In the evening, dine on a traditional Moroccan meal at one of the medina’s many eateries.
Day 2: Fes to Merzouga
After breakfast On the second day of your 4 days tour from Tangier, take a cab or bus to Merzouga village (approximately 6 hours distant). This community is located on the outskirts of the Sahara Desert, making it an ideal location for experiencing the desert sands and dunes.
Check into your hotel before embarking on a camel trip into the desert. Enjoy a typical Moroccan dinner at your campsite after watching the sunset over the dunes.
Day 3: Merzouga to Meknes
After breakfast, return to Merzouga by camel. Check out of your hotel and then take a taxi or bus to Meknes (approximately a 4-hour drive).
Meknes is another royal city in Morocco, famous for its well-preserved medina and lovely gardens. Explore the Bab Mansour Gate, Place el Hedim, and the Royal Stables.
In the evening, dine on a traditional Moroccan meal at one of the medina’s many eateries.
Day 4: Meknes to Tangier
Take a taxi or bus back to Tangier (approximately 3.5 hours away) after breakfast. If you have time, go to the Hercules Caves before leaving Meknes.
When you get in Tangier, you can either go to the airport for your journey home or stay and see the city.
