Trip itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Dades Valley
Your desert excursion begins in the morning with a drive into the Merzouga desert. As we continue driving over the High Atlas Mountains, we will pass by some Kasbahs, or Atlas Berber settlements. We will arrive at Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a popular World Heritage site, after a few hours of seeing the Atlas Mountains. You will be served a delicious lunch at the Kasbah before continuing on to Ouarzazate (Africa’s Hollywood). You’ll visit the Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas Studios in Ouarzazate, where various movies, including Game of Thrones, were shot. Then we’ll head to Skoura and Roses Valley. We’ll spend the night at Dades Valley at the end of the day.
Day 2 : Dades Valley – Merzouga
After a traditional Moroccan breakfast, our three-day desert trek to Merzouga begins. At the Dades, we will then drive along roads studded with ancient kasbahs and several picturesque Berber towns. We will then travel to Tineghir, a 15-kilometer-long valley filled with date palms. As we continue trekking up the 300m high valleys, we will be surrounded by high walls of grey and pink granite.
We will then proceed to the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, Sahara Desert, and you will have lunch in Tinjdad. As soon as you arrive in the popular dunes of Erg Chebbi, we will take you on a one-hour and a half camel ride to the oasis where a camp is located, where you can watch the sunset in luxury. Nothing beats spending the night in the Merzouga Sahara dunes in a bivouac under traditional nomadic tents or outside under the shooting stars. If you want, you can spend the night playing drums with the skilled camel guide.
Day 3 : Merzouga – Marrakech
On the final day of our tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, we will pick you up in the morning and drive you to a nearby location to see the spectacular sunrise on the dunes. We’ll take a camel ride to the main road after breakfast. At the main road, your driver will be waiting with a nice Minibus to take you back to Ouarzazate via Rissani, home of the Alaouite dynasty, and the oasis of Tazarine. Following your leisure and lunch, we will continue our journey back to Marrakech via the High Atlas Mountains. We’ll return to Marrakech in the evening.
